Katerina's Song is the story of Anna Triantaphilou, whose indomitable spirit enables her to survive the Nazi occupation of her Greek island during the 1940s. The carefree life Anna enjoyed as a child, bolstered by an adoring father, fades during the German occupation. The family's fortunes dwindle and, as the village is terrorized, fear settles upon her home. Anna's older brother is killed, and her beloved father, whose tales of America inspire Anna, dies of malnutrition. Anna's world includes Penelope, a love-crazed girl locked behind bars; her best friend Maritsa, an unwanted child; Sophia, the street urchin who unravels the many lies and secrets that bind the islanders; and Katerina, beautiful young woman doomed by rejected love.;Following the war, Anna perceives a cruelty as harsh as the Nazi oppression, that of her own people.
